THE SSI IMPACT

SSI is leading the way, helping adolescent athletes translate sport science into the optimal sports experience.

 

We have the medical expertise, highly specialized staff, age-appropriate equipment and infrastructure to nurture a new generation of athletes by helping them fine-tune their athletic machinery.

SSI athletes have gone onto achieve their athletic potential at all levels of competition. 

The Sports Science Institute of Illinois is a state-of-the-art Human Performance Laboratory dedicated to the comprehensive medical evaluation, sports diagnostic, testing, and education of elite adolescent athletes between the ages of 12-18.   

 

We work with athletes who are serious about their success and have aspirations to make it on the team, qualify for the finals or have their eye on a Collegiate Scholarship.

Steven R. Boas, M.D.

THE SSI EXPERTISE & LEADERSHIP

The Sports Science Institute of Illinois was founded by Steven R. Boas, M.D. Under his medical leadership, SSI evaluates adolescent athletes committed to reaching their potential.

Dr. Boas is a Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He has been a practicing Sports Pulmonologist for over 30 years.  

 

Dr. Boas is a practicing Sports Pulmonologist elected by his peers, becoming a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Pediatrics, and numerous other medical professional societies. Dr. Boas is well published in many peer reviewed medical journals and medical textbooks. He has presented his research at numerous national and international medical conferences.

He is a board certified Pediatric Pulmonologist with a specialized focus on Sports Pulmonology. He has evaluated and treated thousands of adolescent athletes helping them achieve optimal peak performance.

Training

Dr. Boas received his Medical Degree from the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. He completed his Pediatric Residency training at Boston City Hospital and Nassau County University Medical Center followed by a Pulmonary Fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He completed additional training with the esteemed Oded Bar Or, M.D. who is recognized as the father of Pediatric Sports Medicine as well as exercise pioneers including Drs. Karlman Wasserman, Lyle Micheli, and David Orenstein.

Dr. Boas has served on the Board of Directors and Medical Advisory Boards for the Cystic Fibrosis Institute, American Association for Respiratory Care, American Academy of Pediatrics, and the North American Society for Pediatric Exercise Medicine. Dr. Boas serves as an expert reviewer for many medical journals.

 

In his role as a Medical Educator, Dr. Boas has mentored students from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, University of Illinois – Chicago, Loyola, etc. helping to train the next generation of health care professionals.
